AT LAST 1 - REHOBOTH
Genesis 26; 12 -22 records
the inspiring story of Isaac who prospered in harsh economic realities so much
that people became envious of him. When people were complaining about the
economic situation, Isaac’s story was different; he was having it all good, and
he was prospering. Isaac waxed great
became mighty that he had to move out of
the land to the valley of Gerar. In
verse 15, the men of philistine poured dirt into all the wells that Abraham
(his father) dug so that Isaac’s fortune will change for the worse. They did
not realize that it is God that gives the power to make wealth, not man.
Having no water for his flocks could have dire consequences
for his livelihood and business. This could have made Isaac to give up, but he
did not.
The fact that you are still alive today in spite of whatever you might
be going through shows that you have not given up, and because you have not
given up on God, God will not give up on you in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Job 14: 7-9 says. “For there is hope
for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender
branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth,
and the stock thereof die in the ground; yet through the scent it will bud, and
bring forth bough like a plant.” (KJV) This implies that in spite of challenges
or obstacles, you will rise again in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
While at the valley of Gerar, Isaac dug another well and he
struck fresh water. He was happy but his joy was short-lived as the men of that
place, out of envy, disputed the ownership of the well with him. There was
disagreement, discord and strife as the men had the intention to take
possession of the well.
You might have struggles, issues, and challenges but
God is saying you should not give up.
Isaac named the well Esek (contention,
discord, dispute or conflict), because the people there contended with him (Genesis 26:20). He moved elsewhere to
dig and the same thing happened; the people of that place strove with him over
the well. So Isaac called the well Sitnah – which means hostility, antagonism,
enmity, bitterness, friction, or ill feeling. In Genesis 26:22 (NLT), Isaac moved elsewhere to dig another well, he
struck fresh water again but this time nobody disturbed him. He called the place
Rehoboth – which means open space or
room; (because there was no dispute over it); all struggles had ended!
He said,
“AT LAST, THE LORD HAS CREATED
ENOUGH SPACE FOR US TO PROSPER IN THIS LAND.” Today, the LORD will make room
for you and you will be fruitful in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
‘AT LAST’ could
mean different things to different people. To some, it is that moment when
something happened after a long wait. It is an exclamation (and sometimes,
people break out in songs); a sigh of relief. It also means; in the end, after
much delay, at long last, finally, in conclusion or at the end of the day.
