AT LAST 2 – THE ROAD TO REHOBOTH

From the Scriptures, the road to Rehoboth is fraught with a lot of pains, struggles, battles, challenges, tears, trials, tests, sicknesses, resilience, accusations, enmity, frustration, fruitless efforts, delays, seemingly unfulfilled dreams. But there comes a day in the life of a man when you will exclaim, ‘at last!’ Everybody has an ‘at last’ moment and my prayer is that your ‘at last’ moment will be
today in Jesus’ Mighty Name.

However, it is important not to miss a great lesson we could learn on the road to Rehoboth – that we should persevere and never give up. If Isaac had given up at Esek or Sitnah, then he would not have reached Rehoboth. Keep knocking till the door is opened unto you (Luke 18: 1 - 18) and give God no rest till your ‘at last’ moment comes.

After striving with you, a day will come when your enemies will be tired and incapacitated. Your fortunes will turn around, and you will begin to see only goodness and mercy that will bring forth awesome testimonies. All obstacles and your enemies will be subdued, and it can happen just in one day. On that day, God breaks all protocols to answer you.

Sarah also had her ‘at last’ moment after been barren for years. People had said all sorts of things concerning her, and she had been mocked by Hagar. Behold, when Sarah got to her ‘at last’ moment, she began to laugh (Genesis 21: 6-7). You will begin to laugh in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Sarah said; “God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. And she said, who would have said unto Abraham (who would have thought), that Sarah should have given children suck? For I have born him a son in his old age.” (KJV) People will rejoice with you in Jesus’ Mighty Name.

In the parable of The Prodigal Son, the father must have been heart broken when his son asked for his inheritance while the father remained alive, and left home afterwards without a trace. He must have been interceding (praying for the day his son will come back home). His ‘at last’ moment came when he saw his son from a distance, ran to him and embraced him (Luke 15; 11-32).
Anna, a prophetess, prayed and fasted night and day, never leaving the temple till she met the Messiah, ‘at last’ (Luke 2: 36-38).

The Bible records the story of a man born blind in John 9: 1 – 11. He had been in darkness all his life not seeing his environment, his parents, siblings, and neighbours. He had to beg for a living. However his story changed when he met with Jesus and ‘at last’, he could see for the first time in his life! You don’ want to imagine his excitement. Another man in the Bible who had been ill for 38 years met Jesus and ‘at last’, he was healed (John 5:1-15). A man who was possessed by demons for a long time, living in the tombs (Luke 8: 26-39) also met Jesus and he was free ‘a last’.

The children of Israel were in captivity for 430 years, but ‘at last’, deliverance came for them (Exodus 12:41-42). Job was afflicted for a long time, but ‘at last’, he received his healing and he was restored (Job 42: 10). Daniel 7: 21-22 says for ‘a while, there was a battle against the saints’. Satan and the enemies of the saints prevailed against them until ‘at last’, the Ancient of Days came, judgment was passed and the saints possessed the Kingdom. Your time to possess your possession has come in Jesus’ Mighty Name.

Our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ had His own ‘at last’ moment after He had been despised, tempted, betrayed, beaten beyond recognition, mocked, forsaken by friends, spat on, nailed to the Cross because of our sins. He felt abandoned by God but did not give up. He went to Hell, wrestled the keys of death from Satan, and ‘at last’, He rose from the dead victorious on Resurrection Morning. He rose victorious over sin and death. You might have been battered by issues of life or all manner of things; don’t give up because your ‘at last’ moment is here.

History documents that the Black Civil Rights Movement in America experienced tears, toiling, sorrow, pains of slavery and later segregation. On December 1, 1955, a lady called Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat for a white man in Montgomery, Alabama and this left to her arrest and the subsequent Montgomery Bus Boycott protest. After some years, on August 28, 1963, more than 200, 000 Black Americans gathered in Washington DC, for a rally known as ‘March on Washington for jobs and freedom’. There, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. gave the famous “I Have a Dream” speech. After 233 years of waiting, the ‘at last’ moment came for Blacks in America when President Barack Obama became the 44th (and first Black President) of the United States. On that historic day, they sang the song ‘At Last’, written in 1941, which brought tears to many eyes, because it was like a dream.

I’ll end this chapter with the story of an elderly lady who was well known for her faith and for her boldness for speaking about it. She would stand on her front porch and shout, “Praise the Lord!” Next door to her lived an atheist who will get so angry at her proclamations, he would shout, “There ain’t a Lord”. Hard times set in on the elderly lady and she prayed for God to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted, “Praise the Lord! God I need FOOD! I am having a hard time. Please Lord, send me some groceries! ”

The next morning, the lady went out on her porch and saw a large bag of groceries and shouted, “Praise the Lord, at last”. The neighbor jumped out from behind a bush and said, “Ha Ha!! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries, God didn’t.” The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and saying, “PRAISE THE LORD!!! He not only sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them!!”
