I CAN'T COME AND DIE

I was sitting in front of my house on a Monday evening, when suddenly I heard trumpets blowing and people singing; I thought it was this people running a promo, selling sim cards, and playing loud music in their bus, probably they didn't meet their sales target and decided to reinforce by adding trumpets to their awareness. As they came nearer, the sound got louder, then I realised the crowd was singing church songs, and they were distributing handbills. Eventually they got to where I was and a young lady approached me and handed me a flyer; that they were organizing a two day power packed program, she explained briefly and left. I looked at the handbill and smiled to myself... I Will Not Leave Lagos Empty Handed.

So Because Danladi Bought a Laptop...

It was around 6 pm and I had just returned from my hustle. As soon as I entered the passage of my "face me I face you" apartment, I was enveloped by a thick cloud of smoke, I had to rush back outside to make sure the house was not on fire, then I went back in this time better prepared. I was shouting; who dey house, who dey house? As I banged different doors, but nobody responded. I rushed into my room, changed my clothes and just as I stepped back outside, I ran into Mama Nkechi who said the smoke was coming from my Hausa neighbour next door, Danladi's room, it's a smoke of an over burnt food and he doesn't seem to be home because they've been knocking on his door. She said Baba Shade already went to get a carpenter so they can break down his door and put off whatever fire it was before it burns down the whole house. Burn down the whole house ke? I re echoed. God forbid, so it will burn down my most cherished asset of a 14 inches SONY Television and my DVD player. The carpenter finally arrived with Baba Shade and work began in earnest on "Bring down Danladi's door". After prolonged thuds and bangs, the door came down in the midst of a thick smoke in Danladi's room, as we entered we saw two things that struck us in awe; first was a pot of burnt beans on an electric plate (both the beans and the pot were burnt beyond recognition). Second was the lifeless body (or so we thought) of Danladi on his bed with a laptop dangling over him, and a set of earpiece were trapped in his ears.

Mama Nkechi was just entering the room as I made for the windows to open them so that some good fresh air can come in. Suddenly, Danladi sprang on his feet shouting; barawu, barawu banza, shege Dan buromba, he reached under his bed and reappeared with a cutlass. The confusion that ensued was of massive

Put The Glass Down

Not too long ago, I remember reading about an event that transpired in a Stress Management class. The psychologist who was handling the class picked up an empty glass, and filled it halfway with water. At that point, what came to everybody's mind was th e half full, half empty theory, but the psychologist had other ideas; how heavy is this glass of water?  Different people gave different answers with all sorts of KGs and micro KGs. The Psychologist then hushed the class and dropped the bombshell; actually the weight is inconsequential, it doesn't matter, what actually matters is for how long I hold the glass.

Developing Your Business Skills...

It has been said that every single year, only 3 percent of the total population on the whole of planet earth are courageous enough to take that bold step of faith, stick out their neck, make the attempt to walk on water and start out on their own, birth their own business.
Now out of that 3 percent, only about 1 percent successfully plant their feet and get established, while the rest end up as dropout or join that ever growing, ever increasing list of failed entrepreneurs.

While it is true that business requires specific skill sets, basic ideas and adequate information, as well as domain knowledge on the particular business endeavour you're going into. There are also general qualities you must develop when you're setting out, and these are the things we will be looking at for the next few moments...

Toro, My Man

It was a very beautiful, but rather sunny Sunday afternoon; Sundays are synonymous with scorching sun shines anyway, as I had always had the belief that Sunday Sun is in a class of its own, it radiates the kind of heat that is superior to other days; the kain heat Wey Sunday sun dey take pepper us, no be for here. Myself and a few of my neighbours sat in the verandah because as usual, NEPA or is it PHCN has decided to flex their muscle, they held power and the heat was so much that room temperature on this particular day soared in the range of 50degree Celsius. I just arrived from Church, beaten black and black by the blazing sun, as black and blue would have been a little kinder but it wasn't, the sun was so fierce. Sweltering, I got home and couldn't spend 2 minutes in my room, the heat in there could fry an egg. I only quickly opened my windows, took off my shirt, my pair of sneakers and trousers also, and rushed out, I removed my singlet on
my way out and was left with only my briefs as I went to find comfort at the balcony.

So here I was chilling outside, I was later joined by my opposite room neighbour, Baba Nkechi, then Baba

Decide and Succeed !

Will Smith no doubt is one of the most successful Hollywood Superstars.

But way long time ago, many years back before he ever smelt stardom, he decided on something and he committed to his decision. Listen to
what he said; in my mind, I have always been an A List Superstar. I decided no one or nothing will stop me from having a career.
Now there's a huge lesson to learn in there; he decided and he stood by his decision, he was committed to his decision, and the results are
so visible for all to see clearly today. From his early days as the Fresh Prince of BelAir up till his recent movies, he always nails it, he is so so always on point.

Now, whenever I go for my talks in different parts of the country and I am addressing the audience on the issue of Decision Making, there is this illustration I always give, or rather this question I always ask. Okay, check this; four boys were sitting on a fence and one of them decided to jump, how many boys are left on the fence? I hear you say three, you're wrong, there are still four boys sitting on that fence.
One of them DECIDED to jump - he did not jump. There is a big difference between deciding to do something and actually committing to it and doing it.

You know as human beings, we can be so funny at times. We can decide on something and not do anything about it, and not commit ourselves to

it... I can decide right now that I want to start a business and that is where it ends, I don't do anything about it. I can decide to go

back to school for my Masters degree program or a Professional course and that is where it ends, I may not commit to the decision. I can decide I want to start going to the gym because I want to stay fit and keep myself in shape, and that is where it ends.

Dear Friends, you need to realise that deciding is not the same thing as doing. You need to decide on whatever it is you want to do, stay
committed, then follow up your decision with actions to Succeed. Decide and Succeed. If you decide to start a business, then Start! If
you decide to write a book or release a song, then Proceed. If you decide to do something good for yourself and with yourself, don't just
leave it there, Commit yourself to it and make sure you do it. It's not just enough for you to decide if you will not carry out a
corresponding action. I wish you the very best.
Lamide.

Kwara State first lady... Plush

Meeting with the First Lady of Kwara State, Her Excellency, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed will interest anybody. Cool, calm and collected are three perfect words I can use for her.
She is so humble and down to earth. The first few minutes I spent with her, she made me feel so at home. Rather than bask in the euphoria of being the first lady of Kwara State, she constantly and repeatedly acknowledges the extravagant grace bestowed upon her by God.
As the wife of the Executive Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, she is doing so much for the wonderful people of Kwara State. She is also the founding trustee of the LEAH CHARITY FOUNDATION, an organization which is out to empower the less privileged, and put smile on the faces of people. Going from street to street, community to community, district to district, and Local Government to Local Government, transversing the length, breadth and width of the entirety of Kwara State, with the same message… HOPE AND A BETTER LIFE FOR EVERYONE.
The goodwill she enjoys keeps growing in leaps and bounds. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed.

Of President Buhari and His Ministers

After what seemed like eternity, President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the week announced the various individuals who will assume the post of Ministers in his cabinet, and he assigned various portfolios to them.

I say it seemed like eternity because Nigeria, Africa, and the entire World had to wait for close to six months before PMB finally unveiled his team.
Prior to now, there have been speculations here and there about who and who will make the final cut. So many names were finding their way into the social media, generated by guesses and birthed by the imaginations of both well meaning Nigerians and also mischief makers. The social media also caught fire with different names springing up from different sources. Initially, I was carried away by the names of nominees flying here and there, then at some point I
realised that none of the lists should be taken serious until the Presidency makes it official, and that point was the instance of Ekiti state where three names were being bandied: An immediate past Governor; Kayode

Its Very Important that you constantly and consistently develop yourself and your content because in today's world, that's what matters. Bits and Pieces

One of the things I learnt very early in life is doing tasks in bits and pieces, getting so much done by taking it one step at a time. I recall this happened when a lady shared her story with me... She and the husband organized a get together for family, friends, and little children on a Wednesday evening, after the event and everybody had gone back to where they all came from, the house was so messed up and dirty, everywhere was upside down (many thanks to those little angels who came around with their parents, they made sure they helped her scatter the house "well well"). Her husband travelled the following day to be back on Saturday and they had another meeting to host on that Saturday, he left with a plea to the wife to help tidy up the house and make it sparkling before his arrival on Saturday. The lady said when everybody left, she was so exasperated and overwhelmed by the workload of cleaning and rearranging the house and she didn't know where to start from, she

HAPPINESS STARTS NOW

I remember watching a Larry King Interview a long time ago; he was interviewing an American who had been resident in Asia for many years, but was now planning on relocating back to the states, so Larry King asked him... Now that you're going back to America, you'll finally be happy, to which the man replied; I have always been happy, it doesn't matter where I am or what is happening.

Dear friend, I want you to know that no matter what is happening, you deserve to be happy, and the happiness starts now. Don't wait till you have a million bucks in your bank account, don't wait till you buy that car, don't wait till you get that dream job before you start thinking of being happy. Happiness starts now. Be upbeat about life and move forward.

As human beings, there is the tendency for us to always postpone our happiness; I'll be happy when I pass my Junior WAEC, then after that, I'll be happy when I pass

BVN... Celebrate my Escape

So it was the 31st of October, 2015, the deadline for the Bank Verification Number ish, this BVN don already cause enough wahala, no be small o. I was woken up by loud banging on my door, for my mind I being dey think say Na Mama Nkechi my opposite room neighbour, as I buy groundnut and one cup of Garri from her last night with a promise to pay her before she closes her "glorified kiosk" for the night, but of course I knew I had no single dime to pay her. The knock on my door still persisted,

I staggered out of my mattress and headed for the door which I opened reluctantly because I was expecting Mama Nkechi to give me an early morning dose of her rants. I think she holds a masters degree, perhaps even a Doctorate degree in"Rant Science" and"Trouble Engineering", as the whole street constantly settles quarrel between her and her husband.

YOU CAN HANDLE IT

Dear Friend, I want you to realise that there is nothing coming your way that you cannot handle. No matter what you're going through or what is going through you, no matter how tough and rough things are at the moment, it doesn't matter if things are going against the run of play or contrary to your expectations, maybe things are not happening for you as you desired, the odds are against you and the chips are not falling for you. I want to tell you to keep trying, to keep pushing, hang on, don't give up and don't give in. Say to yourself; I am ready for anything, I am equal to anything that comes my way.

It could be you just experienced a broken marriage or a broken relationship, maybe you just came out of a"business gone bad", probably you just failed a professional exam, or your hopes of getting promoted at your place of work has been dimmed, whatever it is my dear friend, hold on, be strong, YOU CAN HANDLE IT.

You need to have and develop a "can do" spirit;I can handle it, I'm equal to the task, I'll come out better and stronger, I'll come out a winner. In so doing, it's not just about you being positive, but it's more about you getting hold of strength. "Let the weak say I am strong".
