Of President Buhari and His Ministers

After what seemed like eternity, President Muhammadu Buhari earlier in the week announced the various individuals who will assume the post of Ministers in his cabinet, and he assigned various portfolios to them.

I say it seemed like eternity because Nigeria, Africa, and the entire World had to wait for close to six months before PMB finally unveiled his team.
Prior to now, there have been speculations here and there about who and who will make the final cut. So many names were finding their way into the social media, generated by guesses and birthed by the imaginations of both well meaning Nigerians and also mischief makers. The social media also caught fire with different names springing up from different sources. Initially, I was carried away by the names of nominees flying here and there, then at some point I
realised that none of the lists should be taken serious until the Presidency makes it official, and that point was the instance of Ekiti state where three names were being bandied: An immediate past Governor; Kayode
Fayemi, a former Governor and decampee from PDP; Segun Oni, and a Legal Practitioner, Femi Falana. I just laughed, how in Nigeria will a single state produce three nominees? At that point I realised that all were figments of people's imagination, or what we can call"beer parlour stories". But I like the way PMB played his game, he kept his cards very close to his chest, and no one knew the
real thing until d-day when the list was handed over to the Senate President.

The entire world watched with bated breath. I say the entire world, and I have every right to say so because prior to the general elections, during and after, the Nigerian Nation has come under the spotlight of International Observers. When PMB assumed Office, everyone wanted to see who and who will comprise his team because of his antecedent on zero tolerance for corruption.
At some point, some Nigerians were saying that his government is too slow, that why should he have to take this long to appoint members of his cabinet. Others argued that he got elected since March 28, so he had enough time to carry out background checks on those he had in mind, and nothing stopped him from getting his cabinet rolled out by June ending, (3 months after the General Elections and 1 month after inauguration. Yet others opined that they were just stalling so they could put together a 'padi padi' government, where they will
compensate different groups and individuals for the role each played during the electioneering period. In the midst of all these gossips, chit chat and badmouthing, the President remained unmoved and unruffled, he took his time, and his"body language" made it clear that he will not be rushed into things.
Lobbyists, Yes-men, Sycophants all surrounded him; each trying to push his candidate, or push himself forward.

As People lined up with their candidates to see PMB
Well, now the wait is finally over, the Ministers have been unveiled and work has commenced. While some of them have staggering profiles that make them more than qualified for the job they were assigned, others have profiles too, but they have no experience whatsoever in the sector they have been assigned to overs. But I believe Mr President has his reasons for appointing each and everyone of them, and he knows best. This is not a time to envy Ministers, because of dwindling economic fortunes, and financial crises, globally speaking, a sharp drop in the price of crude oil, and so much more issues they have to contend with, they certainly have their work cut out, and they have to make the most of whatever resources they have at their disposal. The Ministers have been appointed and assigned to different Ministries, what remains to
be seen is their performance.

My wish came true on Babatunde Fashola, having built an impressive reputation and having a track record of performance and delivery, Sterling achievements as the immediate past Governor of Lagos State, I had always wished he takes up a more challenging role at the Federal level, and no task can be as challenging as his new portfolio of Power, Works and Housing. A plethora of issues awaits him in that sector, Oga Fash, all eyes are on you sir. May God give you the POWER to finish the WORKS, and I wish you the very best.

In my opinion, PMB has clearly demonstrated how much confidence he has in BRF by placing such a huge responsibility and task in his care. I pray he doesn't disappoint not just PMB, but also the over 160 million Nigerians who have high expectations.
I wish all the Ministers the best, I pray God give them the grace to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently, and May they have the interest of the teeming populace in mind, because if this government succeeds, Nigeria and Nigerians will be the better for it. God bless Nigeria.
